10th Mathematics Enterprise Study Group

The MESG aims to create exchanges between enterprises and universities through a week of work on industrial problems requiring innovative mathematical approaches. Four industries will present open issues on the first day, not necessarily formalized, which constitute an obstacle to their business, a lock that mathematicians can help unlock. Tuesday to thursday, small groups of researchers (PhD students and postdocs) works on these issues and explore different approaches. Each group will be followed by more experienced researchers, but retain complete freedom as to the direction of its work. Friday will be devoted to the presentation of the explored paths in front of the industrialists. We encourage all PhD students, postdoctoral fellows to participate in this week, regardless of their specialty, whether theoretical or applied, whether it matches or not the subjects offered. We just think the confrontation of diverse thematic origins enable the emergence of new and relevant tracks, as well as for academic research for industrial applications.

Each group will prepare a report on the work done. In the following months, these reports will be made ​​available on  the HAL repository.

The MESG is an initiative of the  GDR CNRS Maths & Entreprises  and are supported by AMIES. They are inspired by the model of the European Study Group for Industry established in the UK in the 1960s and in many European countries.

Each group will be followed by a mathematician from the IRMA laboratory (UNISTRA) or LMIA (UHA)

Dates and venue

The week will run from Monday, June 23, 2014 at 9am to Friday, June 27, 2014 at 3pm on the campus of the University of Strasbourg (download the campus map).

How to participate ?

This MESG is intended for PhD students and postdocs in mathematics and applied mathematics, regardless if their research areas match or not the problems proposed. A number of scholarships are available to cover the travel and/or stay expenses for the participants.

The days of problem presentation (Monday, June 23, 2014) and restitution of work (Friday, June 27, 2014) are open to all.
